Just returned from 10 days in Paphos, third trip this year. We were in Bar St one night and popped into Woodyz bar, we have been regulars for the last 8 years however it is now under new management by an English owner. After receiving our drinks we queried our bill as had been overcharged. Within one minute we were surrounded by the large owner and his security team demanding we pay up. We pointed out the error to the owner, he refused to let us see the drinks list to clarify and suddenly the cocktails that we had has gone up by a Euro each. It was extremely threatening and aggressive, and we have never been treated this way in Paphos before, needless to say we will never return to this bar. The sad part was the Cypriot security men knew us and were extremely embarrassed by the owner%26#39;s heavy tactics and told us to just pay as he could be very violent.

I would also post this on the Cyprus Living web site. Perhaps then customers will march with their feet!

Hi
Not sure that%26#39;ll do much good as I don%26#39;t think many people on that website would venture down to Bar St anyway, I think they are mainly retirees. You%26#39;re welcome to post it though.

Hello Bob,were going to paphos on saturday i think we will keep out of woodyz bar, just wondering how much cocktails are in paphos has my wife likes to have a cocktail. We went to crete in june and the cocktails there were around the 6 euro mark so we never bothered with them, too expensive.

This is the trouble innit. Stuff in Crete n%26#39; Cyprus is too expensive now. €6=~£6
A couple of years back €6 would have been ~£4.
The rate of exchange makes it so much more expensive.
With beers at around €3 that makes %26#39;em more than London prices - well almost.

Wouldn%26#39;t do any harm to post on Cyprus Living. Although most are ex-pats, they do have friends and relatives who come over and head for Bar Street. Plus in Cyprus, if someone sneezes in Pafos someone in Larnaca catches a cold - word will get around very quickly about this if you post it - and this kind of behaviour needs to be publicised.

The cocktails are anything from €1.99 in Baywatch bar (has a lovely friendly owner and atmosphere) - the drinks were pretty good too if I remember! to €6 in other bars. A pint of beer can be €4 in some places to €1.50 in Camares on the seafront.
English breakfast if you want it is also variable, €1.80 in Friends Bar but you have to buy a drink, my family liked Rose Pub for breakfast best but I liked Pinguinos.
Stay away from the Fort end of the Harbour as the prices charged are higher than Central London. Also a round of drinks for 4 in the Crocodile Pub at the triangle was €20, 2 rum %26amp; cokes, 2 beers! We ate out in Pambis Diner on Universal a couple of times, Happy Island,Pinguinos, Chloes, and up in Tala Square had beers in Marios pub €2 a bottle of keo and ate in a Taverna near there, that cost €12.95 for a set menu and the food/atmosphere and Cypriot hospitality was lovely.
Hope you have a great time, the weather was glorious as usual.

I am drinking Leon at €1.50 a pint and Keo / carlsberg at €2, prices do fluctuate where ever you go, need to shop around.
Won%26#39;t do any good posting in Cyprus Living as us ex-pats already know what bar st is like with over charging and beatings with the tourists on the increase, even spats in Tala of all places

Piper, I suppose you are in Zorros at the fountain end of Bar St. Like you I prefer Leon to Keo. Cheers.

Hi Tankard
No I keep well away from Bar St and most ex-pats do the same, not worth the hassel
