protaras just back yesterday

Weather was nice and clear all week with only one morning when it was cloudy until about 11 am temperature high 80s

Stayed in the Iliada beach. When we arrived the receptionist offered us a all inclusive deal next door at the Silver Sands as the Iliada had double booked on there rooms. Never took them up on there offer as all inclusive would not suit us but that is not to say it was not a good bargain. We went over to the Silver Sands and although it was in need of a refurb it looked okay

Prices of drink varied dependant on what you were looking for Local beer Keo was 2 Euro in a couple of bars Cheers and Rives but they did not have any entertainment. Rockafellas was 2.5 Euros during the day and 2.90 at night when the entertainment was on. Hotel and restaurant prices around 3.5 to 3.8 euro per pint. Vodka and mixer was approx 4.5/5.0 Euro

Food prices again were on the expensive side but only because of the exchange rate they have not increased ther prices since we were there last year but are offering set menus to entice customers in. T-Bone 15.0, Grilled chicken 10 to 12, Pepper fillet 15 Euros. Meal for 2 with soft dinks averaging around 40 Euros. Food was again excellent though and never had a bad meal. Ate at Eratos, Andama, Island Affair and did our usual trip into Ayia Napa to visit our favourite Clarabels well worth the trip at 1.5 Euro single on the local bus which drops off just across the road at the square.

All in all , exchange rate aside another excellent trip to Cyprus and have booked again next year for the Napa Plaza in Napa.

By that time the new airport should be up and running as the wait at Larnaca Airport to check in was not for the faint hearted I have been 8 times but it still does not seem to be getting any better a bit like a cattle market at times.

Locals were once again very very friendly and could not be faulted on the kindness and demeanor

Cigarette prices were Mayfair 29.50 per carton and Regal were31.80 both Euros. Cheaper to buy in the resort as the Airport duty free was 34 Euros for Regal and because of the problems you have checking in sometimes you do not have much time to check out the shops in the duty free area

only 50 weeks to next year cant wait. Any other questions just post and I will try to help

They have built a new terminal just up the road it is 3 times as big as the one they have now. At the moment they are having practice runs so hopefully they should be able to iron out any problems before they open in November unlike terminal 5 at Heathrow.

strictly speaking its a new annex of the old airport built on the same site using the same runways etc... new building if memory serves is off to the left as you come out from the original building... (could be wrong about its exact location)... anyway its due to open in November this year !...

lol... yeah that ^

The new Larnaca airport is opening in November

Lets hope the security improves then! I accidently walked through yesterday with a litre bottle of water and large bottle of perfume which I had forgotten was in my handbag plus scissors which I had thrown in my bag at the last minute. Not a jot was said even though they must have shown up on the scanning equipment. The previous year I had a small bottle of water taken off me and a bottle of hairspray.

The new Terminal is due to operate early November having several food halls and retail areas. While watching the Live Trials taking place now at the New Terminal I must confess that the security personel behaves in a more professional way and seem to be doing more thorough checks than they are doing in the existing terminal (although the personnel is the same!)

So hopefully this first enthousiasm will not pass quickly. However letting you passing by with prohibited goods is a dangerous practice!
