Ev Mavi / Blue House

I%26#39;ve been to TRNC a couple of times, and last time an elderly Turkish Cypriot was telling me about the Ev Mavi or Blue House.

I won%26#39;t go into any more detail, as I don%26#39;t want to be inflammatory - but can anybody tell me whether it%26#39;s possible to visit? I understand it%26#39;s either in, or near, the Army base at Camlibel.

We%26#39;re planning to visit again in May, so any help would be appreciated.

As far as I know, it is possible to visit. I think its called %26quot;Mavi Köşk%26quot;, and is open as a museum. I%26#39;ve never been myself, but I have heard about it and wanted to go the last time I was there but never got round to it. Let me know what its like if you do visit!

Thanks Sunny

This reply is probably a bit late for you to benefit,(I have only just found this website)But the Bluehouse is well worth a visit,it is only open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays, and one of your party must have a passport with them that you leave at the gate,The reason for this is that it is on an Army base.

I am a frequent visitor to Northern Cyprus over the last 8 years,so if anyone wants advice, please do not hesitate to ask.

I am not exactly sure what the Blue House is .Can you tell me about it please?I just returned to Montreal from North Cyprus and would like to know about it for the next trip there. With thanks Laura

The blue House (Mavi Kosk),literally translated means the Blue Pavillion,It was built in the late 1950%26#39;s by a Greek/italian Gangster who was a gun runner for EOKA.It is a very interesting house decorated on a Blue theme throughout, complete with sunken marble fountain in the lounge,It has a pool and garden with a fantastic view straight down to the sea It has been turned into something of a museum and when you visit you are shown around in small parties at a time, by military personel who relate the history of the house to you.Apparently ther were hidden tunnels in the house through which this man escaped when Turkey invaded. As i said before it is on an army base so one of your party will need to leave your passport at the gate which will be returned to you when you leave. The tour of the house and grounds takes about 45 minutes, and you can only do this on Saturdays or Sundays.

Thanks ncypruslover. It%26#39;s never too late, we%26#39;ll be off to TRNC again soon I%26#39;m sure!

We%26#39;ve just got back from Northen Cyprus, and visited the Blue House, the previous comment is very accurate, however it is only closed on mondays for cleaning. costs 2TL for a 45 minute tour (about 80p). It is on an Army Base so we all had to show passports. Very interesting tour and the views are to die for. Well worth a visit.

I went there only last week well worth the trip, used a rented car very straithforward run had an English Tour guide, you did have to go though millitary ground and hand in your passport but that didnt seem a problem, the veiws alone make it worthwhile.
