varosha

hi my hubby and i are going to hire a car,is it possible to go and visit varosha by yourselves this way,or do you have to do a trip? thanks

hi there

you can%26#39;t actually go to varosha as its in the UN buffer zone. You can see it from outside either by driving yourself and crossing the border or on an organised trip.

there are several trips you can do, Eman tours do several and you can book them at any of the tourist agencies along the main strip in protaras.

if you are unfamiliar with the area then it might be worth doing the trip as you will get to see all the important bits and someone else does all the driving.

When are you travelling? Out of season (April to October) you can take a hire car over the border (providing your hire company has no objections). However as the previous post says you can%26#39;t actually go to Varosha - only Famagusta. If you are travelling during the tourist season an excellent way of seeing the area is to go on the Red Bus tour - excellent commentary.

I%26#39;d go for the Big Red Bus tour, as they know more about it than most ! you will get to know a lot more than just driving there yourself !
