? Passports stamped or not? Northern Cyprus

We are travelling to Northern Cyprus next week and I have heard that it is wise to ask the powers that be to stamp on a separate piece of paper instead of in your passport. Just in case we may want to go to Greece next year. Does anyone have any advice please?

thankyou

That is old and outdated advice.

Greece and Cyprus are members ofthe EU and, as such, they are bound by European law to allow you (as an EU citizen) free access and egress over their borders, regardless of what stamps you have in your passport.

My own passport is littered with stamps from North Cyprus and I have never had so much as a second glance from passport control when I have flown in and out of Paphos.

Liz,

For the past three years we have travelled to Kyrenia via Larnaca. At the border we have been asked to fill in a slip of paper with passport details and this slip of paper is stamped and placed in your passport. I have no Northern Cyprus stamp in my passport, although I would not worry if I did. I do not know what happens if you fly into Ercan.

For denwardie%26#39;s info at Ercan airport they either stamp your passport or you can fill in the same visa slip as you do at the border. It is your choice. One of the reasons for the visa slips is that if you travel regularly across the border (some people go every week to shop for instance) you would very quickly use up all the pages in your passport with visa stamps.

Thankyou for the info.

Don,t worry Liz

I have both NC %26amp; SC stamps in my passport, never had a prolem anywhere,

If you fly into the south to holiday in the north you will indeed have to fill out a small form with your passport number inc, before you go through the border (GREEN LINE ) and produce it on your way back,

no problem !(your p/port will be stamped on arrival in the South ofcourse )

If you fly into Ercan NC you still have the option to have your p/port stamped or not if you choose to fill out the same said small form which is stamped

accordingly in the same way to be produced on your way out, and your passport wiil not be stamped,

Hope this helps

Hi CyprusJo

I still have Both Larnaca and Ercan stamps in my 10 year passport, as S/Cyprus did not join the EU untill 2004, and never had any problems when arriving in Larnaca. I know its different now, and looking forward to our next visit to NC very soon, via Larnaca with our white visa slip stamped at the border. Hope the weather is good looking forward to some sun !

Hi there

We travel to the TRNC twice a year and have a paper visa which we keep with our passport. These get stamped every time and we have never had a problem.

Enjoy your trip. Regards

Having returned yesterday from Northern Cyprus, we got our passports stamped and feel secure in the knowledge that it seems to be acceptable. Thanks to all who replied

Never had an RoC stamp in my passport yet.

Travel over the border almost every week and always get the slip.

However, friends I met up with at the Ship in Kyrenia last month told me Ercan insisted on stamping their passport even though they asked them if they could use a visa slip instead.

I have friends who have homes in both North and South and they have stamps in their passports from Ercan - hasn%26#39;t stopped them flitting back and forth.
