Suggestions Please

Hi,

I am stopping in Cyprus for 10 days before doing a group tour of Jordan and Egypt and really need some suggestions on where to stay. I am a single female in my 30%26#39;s travelling alone and would consider myself a %26quot;flashpacker%26quot;. I am not interested in going to night clubs but like to meet fellow travellers, visit historical sights, absorb the local culture, perhaps do some trekking but most importantly I would like to be near the beach. I desperately want to avoid staying with %26quot;package tourists%26quot;. Can anyone please point me in the right direction....

Thanks in advance

You dont say when you are travelling- makes a difference if its not high season.

Before I moved to Cyprus I holidayed in Paphos many times, and as a single woman, always felt comfortable and safe. The harbour and seafront is a lovely area to wander and there%26#39;s lots of restaurants and cafes to have dinner or just a drink. There are beaches and historical sites, and you%26#39;ll find organised trips to take you off the beaten track. To avoid %26quot;package tourists%26quot; you%26#39;ll be better staying in private accommodation rather than a hotel, and for this I would use google and search the sites. When you come up with a short list, post your findings and if I can point you in the right direction, I will.

PS What%26#39;s a %26quot;flashpacker%26quot;?

Sorry I forgot to mention that I am will there from the 25th October for 11 days. A %26quot;flashpacker%26quot; is someone who is essentially backpacking but likes staying at the higher end of backpacking accomodation.

PS sorry for my bad typing!!

Ok couple more questions- which airport are you flying into and are you planning to hire car to get around ?

|||

Well, you are not visiting the island on a high tourist season and by this you do avoid in a great degree the %26quot; package tourists%26quot; usually found on the coastal areas. I wouls also recommend Paphos sincw it has some historical landmarks and a - more than other towns in Cyprus- quaint character. The weather will be possibly fine for sunbathing, since you are interested in beaches, however cannot comment if you plan to swim as well. At Paphos there is an airport as well, however the main airport of the island is located in Larnaca which is 1 hour and 30 min drive away. Cyprus is still a safe place for a travelling woman alone so I don%26#39;t think yoyu will have any problem. Enjoy!!!

Thanks for the replies so far, I am flying in and out of Larnaca but don%26#39;t mind traveling to a good place to stay. I am not planning on hiring a car but rather using public transport.

Thanks again

Hi - the reason for asking is that public transport between the resorts is not that great. Flying into Larnaca you would probably be advised to stay that side of the island. Protaras, Pernera etc have the best beaches anyway and you wil be handy for trips to the Troodos mountains and surrounding villages. As for avoiding package tourists and absorbing some local culture then you will have to move away from the larger resorts such as Limassol . Sure someone familiar with that side of the island will be able to advise - hope you get some trekking in and have a great time.
