We are a party of 6 mid 40s looking for a bit of exploration, some sunbathing and swimming and lots of nice meals in restaurants. We have found villas that we like near both named resorts. But which resort is nicer in terms of being relaxed, not too clubby and Brits abroad and quite scenic? I appreciate they are probably both a bit touristy but I guess what I am saying, is which one the the least like Ayia Napa.
Any advice gratefully received.

Coral Bay is at the west end of the island just by Pathos. It%26#39;s a nice area but I can%26#39;t say I liked Pathos a lot.
Protaras is at the east end of the island. It has a nice beach, a strip with shops, food places, etc. Walk a few minutes uphill and that is Paralimni which has some nice quiet restaurants, etc. It is a quiet area but five minutes away by car is Aiya Napa if you fancy some night life, some more restaurants, etc. You can book tours of the island and even cruises to exotic places from there, or it%26#39;s fairly easy to drive on good roads yourself.

protaras knocks spots off paphos there is a lot more to do and it is cheaper for going out ,better beaches julie

Hi,
Both ends of the island have their relative merits.
IMO:
* East coast (Protaras-side) has much better beaches and is a bit less developed than the west coast (Paphos/Coral Bay side). Having said that, the Coral Bay beaches are OK and the sunsets are nicer on the west coast.
* The eastern coast is pretty unspectacular. Quite flat from the border right down to Capo Greco. Western coast and Akamas are a bit more inspiring and you can be up off the western coastal strip pdq.
* Much more to do (places to visit) on the west coast compared to the east coast.
* The waterpark in Agia Napa is fantastic and a great day out. The one in Paphos is, well, you can read the reviews on here: tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g190384-d6…
* There are many, many pubs, bars, clubs, restaurants, tavernas on both sides, usually with huge satellite dishes catering to the needs of footy-loving Brits.
Whichever coast you choose, have a great trip!
DD.

Thanks folks for all the replies. I think we%26#39;ll go for Protaras - though by the looks of it both sides are full of the kind of brits abroad stuff we don%26#39;t like. But hey it is Cyprus after all!

Hi we%26#39;re now looking at Pernera and Kapparis. Sorry to be a pest but I%26#39;m thinking they will tick more of our boxes?
|||
Pernera is often classed as %26quot;Protaras%26quot; by travel agents and occasionally things like the Malama Village in Kapparis is listed as Protaras as well !
Pernera is about 20 minutes walk from Protaras and is smaller and quieter but not by much, but it is where local Cypriots tend to holiday ! Kapparis is a good 1-2 hour walk (in the middle of the day in the middle of August....) Kapparis like Protaras has its built up areas as well as its quieter spots and more authentic local life. Pernera is more a less a large triangle of three main roads so is quite easy to get around.... Kapparis is a little bigger and takes a little more navigation....

Many thanks. Have whittled my choice to 2 villas - one in each - so will now go with the flow, depending on which villa is available/suits etc.
Thanks for all your help everyone.

Hi there,
If thinking about Kapparis have a look at:
tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g190385-d115547…
Just back from a week there and it was brill. First class accommodation and within a short walk to the strip (a %26#39;very%26#39; mini version of the one at Protaras where we had been 4 or 5 times before).
Modern apartments and a pool area with swipe card entry system. At times the missus and I had the whole pool area to ourselves. Have a look, you won%26#39;t regret it.
Cheers,
Derek
