Kourion or Paphos

Hi!

We will stop at Limassol on our upcoming cruise (Azamara Quest) in November. We have been to Limassol befor and spend our time there in the city.

This time I%26#39;d like to get to one of the archaeological sites nearby. I don%26#39;t think I can see both in one day and would like to know if one had to choose between PAPHOS or KOURION, which one to choose????

Thanks!

The difference between the two excursions is that one you will travel for approx 1 hour on the coach and then see the Tombs of the Kings, and the Mosaics.

It will show you a little of Paphos, (the part I think of as the %26quot;Best part%26quot;) probably you may also see Pillar of St. Paul.

At Kourion it is the archaeological site of a city destroyed by earthquake, partly reconstructed. There is the theatre and a villa with good mosaics (Not up to the quantity of Paphos). You will quite likely see the Kolossi Castle as well.

The coach time will be under half an hour. Only you can choose both are very interesting so you won%26#39;t lose out whichever you decide.

Enjoy your cruise.

Of the two I take my visitors to Kourion first. As a site it is far better presented than Pathos and is in a superb location.

Pathos to my mind suffers due to its location as it has had activity throughout time and so is much more complicated as a story to tell. It is much larger and does not seem to have had as much spent on it as it so deserves.

However the Pathos site is right by the harbour and so there may be time for that area of the seafront which I think is attractive and you will also see more of Cyprus on the journey.

Thank you both for your perspective!

I%26#39;m still hesitating as both seems to have different points of interest.

I wish we could see both, but the tours are for one OR the other.

Any other points of views are welcomed!

It depends how into archeology you are. If you go to Paphos you get to see the harbour area and the sea as well as the Tomb of the Kings and the mosaics (although on a cruise you will see the sea all the time)! You may also enjoy the coach trip to Paphos. Difficult one.

Looking (I hope) at the right web site I would go for the Kourion, Temple of Apollo and Omodos trip as better view of Cyprus.

We will also be on that cruise, altho our first time in Limassol. Should we just walk the city on this trip or plan an excursion?

Hi Mark!!

Will you be on the same cruise as us???

We%26#39;ve been to Limassol before and there isn%26#39;t much to see in the city itself. There is a castle turned museum that is interesting, but it isn%26#39;t much.

Since we are there on a Sunday, most shops will be closed - as it was last time we were there on a Sunday too...

I%26#39;m planning to take a tour to either Paphos or Kourion - still haven%26#39;t made up my mind. My Mom may stay on the ship to rest after so many port days and before our long day in Cairo the next day!!

Hope we get to meet on the ship!!

PS - are you on Cruisecritic???

MC

Yes, we%26#39;ll be on the same cruise. Traveling with another couple from Titusville, Florida. We%26#39;ll be in Rome 4 days prior to the Cruise. On our last cruise around So. America we hired taxi%26#39;s at the dock and made up our own trips....must cheaper than using the ships excursions, plus our first stop was always at the wime store.
