the pound surrenders to the euro !

We in the United Kingdom are now getting it in the neck big-time !

prices in general are as high as I have seen it in all the years going to Cyprus .

A few tips and pointers that may help my fellow travelers

The cash machines are currently giving you £1.01 for 1 euro

local vendors 1.10/1.11 exchange for cash

Bus from limassol along the strip 1.50 euro , 1 way

taxis 2 euro per person , they take a min of 3 people

Bottle of house red 12.50 euro

pint of beer 3euro , small bottle 2.20 , large bottle 3.20

Average meal set menu 12 euro

If in town try to keep to local drinks

If anyone is thinking of going to step in in limasol

Magners 8 euro

heniken btle 4.00

carslbeg/keo 3.50

You can get everything in hear and all around limasoll , but be prepared to part with a few euro for the privelidge

The problem lies somewhere around 10 Downing Street as the £ continues to be devalued against the € because of the world perception of the UK not facing up to its mounting government debt. But there are areas of the Eurozone that are struggling but they have protection because they took the decision to join and are sheltered by the more robust countries.

If you look at the prices against the time the £ bought around €1.50 which was not that long ago then its not all about Cyprus prices going up but the £ going down. There is inflation here to contend with.

I hear your points , but my post is factual to people from the UK , just some pointers that will help people in and around Limassol , As for protection , you are 100% right , small countries like Cyprus and ireland and countries where they hit the bare minimum Italy for example will be shielded and sometimes exposed to higher taxes, heavy connstraints and what for to be in the German/france European Bank of Europe , I for one do not want to be involved in that arrangement %26amp; hopefully whoever sits in 10 downing street will share me and many millions of peoples similar View...... Good luck to Cypriots and what they can get out of being a member of the European Community %26amp; We who want to visit Cyprus every year will sometimes have to dig deep when our pound as it is at the moment is struggling

Surely if the Eurorate is 1.01 to £1 that is the same rate where ever you are in the Eurozone. So I think we have to hope the Sterling rate gets better soon.  Goodbye to the present occupier of No. 10 the next person can hardly do worse.

We just got back from Limassol yesterday and when we arrived two weeks ago were getting €1.12 to the £ but this had decreased to €1.07 by the time we left yesterday. The prices in restaurants were very expensive but that didn%26#39;t correlate with the prices in the supermarkets as food and drink in the shops seemed very reasonable. It does seem that some hotels and restaurants are taking advantage of the situation. We were paying a lot more than Caolilawell for meals and drinks where we were.
