Car hire @ Paphos Airport

Beware!

Just returned 23/09/09 from Cyprus %26amp; still simmering from my experience with Avis.

We arranged car hire using Air Miles who use Avis, so were not expecting additional expenditure upon collecting the vehicle.

However,we were charged 66 Euros for a tank of petrol(almost impossible to use in a single week)%26amp; 17.25 Euros for Airport Tax.

There was no reaction to my protests from the Brit shysters on the Avis desk, beyond the statement that %26quot;it was company policy%26quot;.

Had we not been %26#39;tied in%26#39; by having expended Air Miles, I would have walked away.

Consider we have been ripped off %26amp; will not be using Avis when we have a choice.

I fear Cyprus is heading the way of Spain, thanks to the influence of some Brits.

I don%26#39;t know anything about Airport Tax but this idea of paying for a full tank and returning empty seems to be common practice everywhere now.

It is the same with other car rental firms. I was charged EUR99 for a full tank of petrol, airport pickup surcharge and dropoff fee for dropping off the car at Larnaca. The last 2 surcharges were expected but not prepaying the fuel. However this was mentioned on the booking confirmation but I didn%26#39;t notice it at the time.
