Hi

We are first timers to Cyprus this coming June.

Unfortunately a %26quot;friend%26quot; has worried my wife. My good lady has a thing about all things venomous, ie snakes and spiders! My so called friend has wound her up telling her there are poisonous snakes everywhere and deadly spiders.

Can anyone shed any light so i can calm her down and stop her worrying please?

Any help will be much appreciated!

Never seen a venomous snake in Larnaca. There are a few in the mountains but they are more scared of us and tend to keep well away. Spiders, only the good one%26#39;s, the type that eat flies.

Your so called friend is definitely a so called friend...

There are roughly about two venomous snakes in Cyprus but they are RARE. I repeat.... RARE. You will not find them in cities or towns that%26#39;s for certain. You wouldn%26#39;t even see them in villages.

To calm your good lady, do not go hiking up on the mountains. Stick to roads and stay inside your car and go for a nice ride.

If you go to historical sites, you wouldn%26#39;t find any snakes whatsoever.

If I do see snakes, I generally see them on roads (surburban areas) or in fields. But that is about it. Just the odd one in every 5 years or so.

As for spiders, you shouldnt%26#39; see them in hotel rooms anyway or in hotels alone either!

If you do see them, they are more likely to be no bigger than the size of a 5p. And probably in fields too.

No venomous spiders in Cyprus as far as I know.

Leah, on snakes. We have rather alot in our village. The odd venomous but the majority are the friendly type. I had the roof re done on one of our buildings (old style) last summer and we removed 14 beauties. Start seeing more now it is warming up but as I said before they are more scared of us.

So they are about which is good for Cyprus, it shows Lanate is decreasing in use and the snake is surviving on eating vermin.

i was in cyprus 2 weeks ago and i was bitten by something i did not feel anything when it happened but my wrist came up like a water blister on top of my wrist and 2 kind of teeth on the lower part of my wrist. i would like to know what bit me. i hope you can help me find out
