o2 mobile users while in pernera/protaras

just thought i would let you know i just got my mobile bill as ive just returned from cyprus 16/09 i was staying in pernera area and i was charged for a lot of my calls etc under turkey having just spoke to 02 and told them i wasnt in turkey but was in cyprus they said my mobile was picking up a turkish signal so thats what i have to pay i said if i knew that i wouldnt have used my mobile.so watch out if ur resort is near the turkish border i.e.pernera area a 6min call to uk was £9.20 under turkish price and i called the same number from the same area (inside our villa)on another occasion and was charged only £2.40 under cyprus charges. turkey not in eu and the charges are sky high.you would think o2 could warn people about this.apart from this i had a great time lovely and sunny

Thanks for that I am going to Protras next week so will make sure when i use my phone i have a Cyprus network

That could answer my query as I had a huge bill when I got home in May but the phone company didn%26#39;t want to know!! I don%26#39;t use my mobile now, just have it with me for emergencies. I find it much cheaper to use the phones in our aparthotel.

if you take an UNLOCKED old mobile with you , you can then buy a Cyprus sim quite easily. The initial cost is about 25 euros with some call time, and then you just top it up as you go along. We use Cyta SoEasy and find it very good and cheap to use, you get a year to top it up again or it expires.We have had our current one for about 4 years now, will be using it again shortly. We are spending part of our holiday in the north so not sure what to do there, maybe buy another sim for the same phone over there!

What you should have done is go into your setting and manually set it to O2 and told it not to search !

I spent 3 weeks in Pernera and didn%26#39;t pay anymore than expected (ie 11p for a text and something like 35p/min for a call)

(oh and I also used the internet a lot which was something like £3 for 1meg)

Personally I intend to switch the damn thing to silent for two weeks and tell no-one to contact me, family or work unless it is an emergency!
