Have just returned from Cyprus and thought I would just post a comment about trips by coach from Paphos to Kyrenia should anyone be thinking about making the trip. The tour cost was 30 Euros per person via the travel agent which saved 5 Euros on the same trip if booked via the hotel.
Having been picked up at the hotel at about 7:30 in the morning I was anticipated a few more hotel pick ups in the vicinity and then off to Kyrenia via Nicosia. However, the journey then consisted of more then a few hotel pick ups in Limasol followed by a toilet break before Nicosia and then the abbey to the north of Kyrenia for a quick 30 minute (viewing) and then down the hill to Kyrenia arriving at 13:00 – five and half hours later. We then had just two hours in Kyrenia having to leave there at 3pm for the reverse journey getting back to our hotel at just after 7:30 pm at night. So 12 hours in a coach for a two hour visit. Would I do it again – probably not, though Kyrenia is a very pleasant port!

We did this trip one year in the spring. We didn%26#39;t have pick ups in Limassol, only Paphos, so I guess we were a bit luckier than you in that respect. I quite enjoyed the journey having never been to Nicosia before, and the scenery was lovely crossing the mountains before Kyrenia. You are right in that it is a long day, and there isn%26#39;t an awful lot of free time before heading back, but I still enjoyed it, despite the fact that it rained most of the day. We are stopping in Kyrenia next month for a few days, along with other places, so hope to see more of the area then, as we will have a car.

Don%26#39;t get me wrong robersdog, the route was very interesting and scenic. I think it was the number of hotel pick-ups in Limassol and then the comfort break and the quick abbey stop that just added to what appeared an eternal journey. Kyrenia is lovely port and well worth the visit.

Hi people,
For those wanting to visit Kyrenia, you are better off going by car.
First, drive to the Ayios Domentios village. It%26#39;s close to the Nicosia city centre. You%26#39;ll spot signs indicating the village%26#39;s name.
You%26#39;ll then spot a barricade and %26#39;stall%26#39;s. You drive up to a stall and hand over your passport. It%26#39;ll be checked and validated and then you can drive into the occupied part.
Warning. All signs will be in Turkish but some can be easily interpreted. The Kyrenia name will be easily understood too.
The drive is about 50-60 minutes to the Kyrenia town and you can get out and wander around.
Most elderly Turk Cypriots will be playing backgammon *smile* and if you fancy eating out, remember that the cafes at the Kyrenia harbour once belonged to Greek Cypriots, whom were kicked out during the invasion and they were taken over by Turks so all the profitering go to the Turks and the Greek Cypriots get nothing.
But otherwise, enjoy your day, have a good stroll, visit the historical places and go back to our Cyprus with happy memories...
