Near miss at the Pavlo Napa Hotel today !!
British tourists had a narrow escape this morning after a bomb exploded close to huge gas cylinders at this hotel beach-bar.
The blast occurred at 2:55 this morning in the popular Pavlo Napa Hotel on Nissi Avenue, which belongs to Ayia Napa Mayor Antonis Tsokkos.
According to police, the explosive device was placed near the gas cylinders of the restaurant.
Luckily the explosion did not ignite the gas, which could have caused carnage at the hotel - a popular destination for British tourists.
A Night watchman at a nearby hotel said he saw two people flee the scene on a motorcycle shortly before the explosion occurred.
The area has been sealed off as police carry out their investigations.

I am absolutely shocked. Have been going to Cyprus since 1981 and have never heard of anything like this before. We are going to the Pavlo Napa on Sunday but hey ho just have to get on with things. Can%26#39;t let idiots of any nationality or opinions stop us. It happens everywhere now. We went to Egypt 1 week after the Gazala Gardens bombing and were in London a few weeks after the July bombings. Hopefully they will be caught and suitabily punished.
They ain%26#39;t spoiling my holiday. Just glad no injuries or people harmed.

To be honest I doubt the people responsible were after hurting anyone due to the time of day it happened....most people in their beds.
I suspect it could be a disgruntled employee perhaps trying to cause Mr Tsokkos some problems and disruption.
He does have a reputation in Napa for hacking people off when he buys a hotel 90% of the Cypriot staff get laid off and replaced with cheaper Eastern European staff !!!

Yep it`s what most sane people do,after getting laid off.
1)Plant a explosive device.
2)Plant device, next to another explosive device.
3)Plant it at a time,to course most disruption,and death.
Happens all the time here in blighty.

But this was Cyprus not the UK !
There are regular protests, placards and all made against the Tsokkos Group all the time from very disgruntled ex staff in and around Ayia Napa and Protaras. This has been going on for a couple of years and reported regularly in the local papers and on ex pat websites.

Eastern Europeans are widely employed in Scotland as well however I have not yet heard of anyone taking such drastic action. If this IS the reason then it is absolutely disgusting. They will succeed only in scaring off tourists with such stupid actions. I didn%26#39;t realise that the Pavlo Napa was a Tsokkos hotel. My normal hotel is the Vrissiana in Protaras but unfortunately I couldn%26#39;t get booked for this month. I met Mr Tsokkos on our last visit in May and I found him to be an extremely nice and down to earth man. Yes, there are other nationalities employed in the Vrissiana and Constantinos in Protaras but in May I found that the more senior positions were held by Cypriots and the hotels most definately had a %26quot;I%26#39;m in Cyprus%26quot; atmosphere. I like hotels with Cypriot staff as I like to try out my rubbish Greek and also chat to them but realistically we live in a multi cultural society. I%26#39;d hate to think if I lived and worked in Cyprus that I would be thought of in that manner and a bomb planted in a hotel because me/my countrymen worked there and I am quite sure that other nationalities working in UK would agree with this reasoning.
I%26#39;m looking forward to my visit and just hoping the bar is intact!!

Be interesting to see if the culprits are caught, the Cyprus Mail reports today that:
%26quot;There is speculation that the bomb was planted after the Mayor Tsokkos issued a directive banning illegal placing of tables and chairs on beaches by local tavern and bar owners. According to reports local businessmen are furious at the decision.
“We are now talking with the Mayor of Ayia Napa, to try and find out if something happened during his duties which could have prompted this,”
