Kapparis - the best restaurants ?

We are staying here in October and enjoy eating out and having traditional home made local food instead of English fayre. Does anyone have any recommendations ?

Have a look at www.easterncyprus.com. Ex pats forum and there are plenty of restaurant recommendations. One really nice place I like is The Onassis which is on the coastal road between Pernera and Kapparis - specialises in excellent fish mezes. The Cypriots travel down from Nicosia at weekends just to eat there.

For Local Food try %26quot;The Wooden Crest%26quot; on Friday Nights It%26#39;s %26quot;Kleftico%26quot; Night Best in the Area.

Food is excellent on other nights also.

But for Friday Nights its the Best.

we tried the onassis once and sat there for an hour without being served! the food did look good but it was a bit fawlty towers for us. amusing to watch but we got a bit hungry so left.

on the main kaparris strip Karas Tavern is very popular and often has people waiting for tables on saturdays in the height of summer. they do very good traditional food, the Tavvas is excellent and we%26#39;ve had the meat meze before as well. i hear that the fish meze is very good although i haven%26#39;t had it myself, there always seems to be lots of people eating fish.

i know its not traditional but just italian is also excellent.

further down, faliros offers a good choice and there%26#39;s a new very trendy one up by the big chinese called folio although i don%26#39;t know anywhere who has eaten there.

there are several pubs who will offer pub grub style food with a couple of local options such as mousakka thrown in but there are some excellent retuarants in the area as well.

Have a look at my Google map of Kapparis - www.tinyurl.com/6gplvf - to see what%26#39;s available, and there%26#39;s plenty! (Satellite image is Sept 2003!)

I hesitate to recommend anywhere as I%26#39;ve had good and not-so-good meals, as everywhere. Alkionia, Faliros, Karas - all variable.

Folio is fine dining - we blew €100 here and enjoyed it immensely. Will definitely return.

Wooden Crest kleftico - try and order before Friday as they cook it fresh. We call it KFC lamb as you%26#39;re not sure which part of the lamb it is! With traditional potatoes, it%26#39;s delicious.

Many of the traditional tavernas are found in the villages - Dherynia, Sotira and Paralimni itself. But beware of drink/driving.

My list of restaurants/pubs (covering all the villages) at www.tinyurl.com/y9n7vcd can keep you browsing for ages. Sadly, many establishments don%26#39;t have their own websites, so I try and provide photos where possible, but it%26#39;s an ongoing task.

Enjoy!
