Ayia napa buggy hire

To anyone who is considering hiring any sort of bike or buggy in Ayia Napa. Beware!! Especially of a place called Moto Rent between Thalassaki hotel and the hotel Annmaria. A group we met out there were told that the buggy%26#39;s had been damaged beyond repair after only one hours rent (the guy bought out a ruler and said it had dropped by one millimetre!! They keep yr passport and licence. They were first told they had to pay £1400 but then returned and surrounded by %26quot;heavies%26quot; and told to pay £ 800 within 5 mins. These people were not kids, they were guys with kids and familys. Even the hotel rep got stung for £900 on the same day and two girls told they had put wrong fuel in (£300). DO NOT HIRE FROM THIS PLACE - PASS ON TO ANYONE WHO IS THINKING OF IT!!!!!!!!!

I didn%26#39;t like the sound of what happened to these people so I have done a little bit of investigation - (my husband works for a rival rental firm in Ayia Napa so I asked a few questions)

From what I hear, this incident has become well known amongst the bike rental firms in town and whilst I can%26#39;t condone the %26quot;heavies%26quot; who were sent or comment on the other people who had to pay out money, the group of guys who were mentioned originally had apparently been jumping the buggies off sand dunes and had bent the chassey%26#39;s on them. the repairs cost €1500 and I believe the owner of moto rent has the invoices from the mechanics should any one wish to check out his story.

I obviously wasn%26#39;t present at the time of the incident so can only go by what I%26#39;ve been told but I belive the same could be said of the original poster (martin) who also has only had one side of the story.

There are many rental firms in ayia napa, they will all take your passport as security that you are going to return the vehicle. when the renter hires a vehicle they sign to agree to the excess to be paid by them in the event of any damage. on buggies the excess is usually over €1000.

Don%26#39;t know about other places but i was in Napa at the end of August.

I rented a moped and a buggy and did NOT have to give my passport and they certainly didn%26#39;t keep it!!

They did take my driving license but NOT my passport so i guess what the poster above said about ALL places in Napa taking your passport is not true.

i wasn%26#39;t aware of any that didn%26#39;t, but i guess there must be some!

I can%26#39;t comment on any others as i only used this one this year and this was the 1st time hiring a buggy.

Hired a quad and a moped last year but they didnt ask for passport either?

Maybe i just got lucky both times as i wouldnt like to leave my passport with anyone!
