Just booked to weeks beginning of april, can anyone tell me if everything will be open and warm enough to swim?

We went in April (to Pernera just down the road from Protaras) this year (and obviously no one can predect weather so far in advance etc...but) In 5 days we saw some rain, some clouds and a lot of sunshine. It was however cold if the wind was blowing (but if you could have got in a place out of the wind you could have probably done some sunbathing). We got mild tans just walking about and even manage to burn my nose as I didn%26#39;t think I needed any suncream ! - I%26#39;d say it was about 25°C with the sunshining and probably down to 17 when it clouded up... it was still pleasant enough even when it rained (and we still did a lot of sweating)!
As for things being open, again I can%26#39;t tell you as things change all the time but... Not everything was open (in Pernera) when we went. Off the top of my head the Windmills was open, Knights bar, ranch bar. safiros down by the beach and a few others. It was a similar sort of thing in Protaras with the odd few open but not everything.
I must point out that April is out of season so its different in odd ways. Its much quieter, its more relaxed and more locals seems to be about. It also means that those that open might not be running like they do in season so might not have beer on draught and bottles can work out a little dearer, they might not do food etc.... don%26#39;t panic you wiil still get food and drink..!... there won%26#39;t be much in the way of special offers or price wars so don%26#39;t expect it to be as easy to get good deals and cheap offers.
For two of us we spent about €100 a day eating out for breakfast, dinner and tea (or breakfast, lunch and dinner depending on where you are from) and drinks at night... not going on any trips (most of which won%26#39;t be running as its out of season) or doing anything like hiring cars...
We treated it as a relaxing peaceful time, not rushing about to do anything and had a really good break !

As Steve says, a lot of places won%26#39;t be open. Generally everything gears up to opening for the summer at the end of April. I find April too unpredictable weatherwise but it depends what you want from a holiday. It is an ideal time to tour the island before the heat of the summer sets in but generally speaking the sea is very cool and any hotel/villa pools far too cold. Protaras/Pernera was known as the land of the windmills for the very reason it can be very windy. In the height of summer the wind can be a welcome relief but April/early May it can feel very cold.

We had a great little short break in April, weather was decent (if started to rain.. (I say rain but its not like we get back home) a couple of times and all I really did was covered my camera up ! It didn%26#39;t suddenly turn into a dark gloomy moss growing dark winters day like back home ! It just went a bit dull and some water fell out of the sky for 5 minutes... then the sunshine came back and you were sweating again !
Things being closed does affect things a little, but then again if you hired a car it would be a good time for seeing the whole of the island when its not as busy and its not as painfully hot to walk about in (to me it was like a warm summers day in the UK ! but I did have to put a blanket on the bed some nights, rather than the usual no clothes, no sheets and the air con up full I need in August)
this might give you an idea (my photo albums from April this years)
Bars and Restaurants (all of them not just the ones open)
www.facebook.com/album.php…
prices on billboards and receipts etc
www.facebook.com/album.php…
the new coastal path that was just being completed at the time (now its finished)
www.facebook.com/album.php…
the building work that was being done due to it being out of season (but it wasn%26#39;t a problem in anyway ! it didn%26#39;t even cause any noise to travel)
www.facebook.com/album.php…
and finally just the holiday in general (you must bare in mind we hadn%26#39;t planned this holiday, we just reaslised there was a long weekend with the bank holidays and booked a 5 day break in a fit of madness...)

hope this helps to give you a better picture of what its like, what the weather is like etc...

Steve - if you pick this up can you let me know what you thought of the restaurant where you had the meze. The reason I ask is that the owner is the nephew of Andreas who runs the bar in the Livas. 10 of us went when he first took it over 12 months ago when it was known as Americanos and I have to say it was one of the worst meals I have ever eaten in my life and I vowed not to go back again. However it looks like he has changed the name and obviously the menu.

Sorry Steve, forgot to say - fantastic photos - brighten up a dull day here in the UK. They really are a help for anyone going to the Pernera region.

Kath oddly and bizzarely, Cyprus is a small World ! We went to the restaurant with Mariella (who Andreas knows well, but we didn%26#39;t know him at the time). His nephew actually gave us a lift home (I say home, back to our hotel which was the Windmills back then)!
The meze wasn%26#39;t bad, some odd things like pickled fish which we hadn%26#39;t seen elsewhere, the service was good (just make sure you ask prices of wine before saying yes ! lol we didn%26#39;t and paid €25 for a bottle..out fault as we should of asked). Music playing live down one end and lots of people (many local) in there ! ...
I wouldn%26#39;t go out of my way to go back, but as another place to try it wasn%26#39;t bad...
